Exceptional Quality Pr Of Antique Cast Border Sterling Silver Round Dishes

An unusual pair of antique American, sterling silver pastry/cake dishes made by Theodore B Starr, circa 1900. Each dish stands on 4 cast feet, and have a heavy & detailed floral decorated cast border. The center is plain. No monograms or initials. Very good condition.

Theodore B. Starr was a company of silversmiths founded in New York in 1862 by Theodore Starr. In 1864, he was joined by Herman Marcus, and the company became known as Starr and Marcus. Marcus left to join Tiffany’s in 1877, and Starr bought back control of the company, with the name of the company becoming Theodore B. Starr. The company was incorporated in 1907 by Starr’s son and had a retail store selling jewelry, clocks, watches, silver, bronzes & porcelain at 204 5th Avenue in Manhattan. They were eventually bought out by Reed and Barton Silversmiths in 1918 and finally closed in 1923.
