George II Antique English Sterling Silver Pint Mug. 1759. CRESTED

A GEORGE II PLAIN BALUSTER SILVER MUG, MAKER’S MARK PROBABLY THAT OF JOSEPH STEWARD, LONDON, 1759, ON CIRCULAR SPREADING FOOT, WITH LEAF-CAPPED SCROLL HANDLE. THE FRONT OF THE MUG WITH A BEAUTIFUL HAND ENGRAVED ARMORIAL, AND THE LATIN MOTTO ‘VIRTUS VINCIT IVIDIAM’ = VIRTUE CONQUERS VICE. THE ARMORIAL AS SHOWN IN PICTURES.

THE MUG IS HALLMARKED ON THE UNDERSIDE WITH THE DATE LETTER D FOR 1759, AND THE MAKERS MARK OF I.S IS SHOWN IN GRIMWADES AS PROBABLY THAT OF JOSEPH STEWARD.

Mug weighs 312 grams = 10 troy oz = 10.97 regular ounces.

4.35″ high. 3″ diameter at top. 4.5″ max-width over the handle.

Foot is 3.25″ diameter.
